Indiana vs Oregon – There is a feeling about this game, and the closest thing to compare it to would be a trap game for Oregon, but this can’t possibly be a trap game. Both teams are undefeated, both have solid wins, and both can get blazing hot. Indiana arrives with two big victories, they blew away Illinois and then beat Iowa on the road. However, there are some people out there that are still not impressed with their resume. A win over Oregon would of course erase those naysayers. The Hoosiers ride or die on QB Fernando Mendoza, when he struggles like he did against Iowa, the team struggles. When he is on fire, like he did against Illinois, the team is on fire. Last week against Iowa QB Mendoza had a terrible time completing passes across the middle of the field, why? No one honestly knows, it wasn’t because the Hawkeye defense was so good, because they weren’t. But Mendoza and the rest of the offense just couldn’t find the groove they had when they destroyed Ill. If they can get their mojo back, they’ll be able to pass over the Ducks secondary, which in all honesty hasn’t faced a formidable air attack yet. The Ducks are coming off a bye week, so they’ve had two weeks to prepare for what may come, and they have the home field advantage. Not only that but they’ve just come off their biggest win, taking down Penn State in overtime. Everything is looking very green for the ducks. But there’s that feeling again that voice in the back of the mind, sounds like General Akbar in Return of the Jedi yelling, ‘It’s a trap!” The Quack attack wasn’t on point against Penn State. It was the first time all season they’ve actually faced a stiff defense, and they didn’t produce like they should have. Then their defense let the Nittany Lions mount a stunning comeback and force overtime. The Ducks still won and they’re still undefeated, and ranked 2nd in the nation. They are a very good team that makes very little mistakes, they should win this game, but there’s that voice again, screaming it’s a trap. The Hoosiers are very capable of arriving in Eugene and slicing this Oregon defense to sheds and the main reason is because Oregon defense doesn’t put pressure on opposing QB’s, if Mendoza is allowed to stand in the pocket and survey the field he’s going to pick the Ducks apart. If the ducks defense can disrupt him and make him nervous, they’ll win. This is going to be an interesting game, fun to watch. Oregon is everyone’s pick to win, but that voice in the force just won’t shut up so CSF is picking Indiana for the upset!

Alabama vs Missouri - The Crimson Tide faces their third straight top 25 opponent. Last week they shook a big monkey off their back by taking down Vanderbilt. If they would have lost that one, then darkness would have covered Tuscaloosa like it was a Biblical plague and the people would have torn their garments, covered their heads with ashes and mourning would have remained the rest of the season. Instead, the Tide lives to see another day. Now the defense in the first half against Vandy struggled they allowed two very long runs, and they were weak against the run as a whole. After forcing a turnover in the red zone and stopping another Vandy score they recovered and tightened up. In the second half they played heads and shoulders above the way they started the game. Against the Mizzou, the defense must come out of the gates, stone cold. They cannot allow the Tigers to get their running game going, because if they do, it’s going to be a bad day for the Bama faithful. On the flip side, Missouri cannot allow Alabama QB Ty Simpson to get his passing game going. When he gets into a rhythm the offense of the Tide becomes a freaking Tsunami. Which spells bad news for the “Show me State” because their defense has been very weak against the pass. They’ve only faced two teams that could pass the ball with any regularity and that was Kansas and South Carolina and both those teams carved up the Tiger’s secondary like they were a Thanksgiving day turkey. Missouri has been looking for that big win, the one that will cast them into the elite status of the SEC, winning this game would do exactly that, so look for the Tigers to come out in this game with all they’ve got, they are going to play harder this game then they’ve played all season. Alabama with all their improvement this year, they are still not to the point where they are playing murder ball against everyone. They’ve struggled to run the ball, and their defense has been iffy at times. The passing game has been their savior and its going to be in this game as well. Alabama is going to get beat up in this game, there’s going to be a bunch of bumps and bruises, but the Tide should come out of this game victorious.

Ohio State vs Illinois – Does Illinois have the capacity to win this game? The surprising answer is yes, yes they do. A few things have to break their way, but it’s a very real possibility. The Illini did get destroyed by Indiana in a national spotlight game, but that was the Hoosiers making a statement. This game for Ohio State is just another game, and its at Illinois. Now the Buckeyes are the number one team in the nation, their defense has been playing lights out, its almost like they take anyone scoring on them as a personal vendetta. But as a whole team the Buckeyes have not been as sharp as they could be. Against Washinton their last road game, they did win that game 24-6 but well into the fourth quarter, the score was 14-6. If Illinois is able to hang around within striking distance late into the game, they are fully capable of winning the whole thing. Luke Altmyer the Fighting Illini’s Qb has seen just about everything so far and he doesn’t get rattled, he has full command of the Illini attack, and they have proven they can push the ball deep into enemy territory. The biggest deciding factor will be if the Illinois defense can put any pressure on OSU’s QB Julian Sayin. If they allow him to stand up right, he’ll pass all over them. However, if they are able to put pressure, not necessarily sack him all game long but make him move, make him nervous, then this game becomes very close, maybe too close for the Buckeyes. Ohio State stills wins.
